Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. I received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2014. For nearly a decade, my clinical work has included implementation of evidence-based interventions for children with disruptive behavior disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder and other trauma-related disorders, children with problematic sexual behavior, and assessment of children prenatally exposed to drugs and alcohol. I have a strong commitment to supporting other professionals in their own sustainability in the helping profession, with a particular emphasis towards the support of students and new professionals. This passion reaches into all of the different roles I serve with OUHSC. I am a nationally certified therapist in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and TF-CBT consultant. Through my work in TF-CBT, I have had the pleasure of coordinating the efforts of Oklahoma’s statewide dissemination of trauma-focused assessment and treatment for youth. In this role, I am able to share this expertise so that all youth accessing mental health services in the community receive screening for trauma impacts and most effective treatment. These efforts further support my passion of aiding in the sustainability of helpers to best serve youth and families in their moments of most need. I also serve as the Co-Director for OUHSC’s Child Trauma Services Program (CTSP) and am the Director of Behavioral Health for the Family TREE partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) and OUHSC. The meaningful and challenging nature of this work demands a focus on one’s own wellness. To further support my passion for helping other professionals, I became a Nationally Approved trainer in Components for Enhancing Career Experience and Reducing Trauma (CE-CERT), a model for preventing burnout and secondary traumatic stress in helping professionals. It is an honor to witness my colleagues, friends, and other helping professionals experience the impact of this training. One of my greatest joys is hearing from others that the CE-CERT training gave them renewed passion, energy, and commitment to their work. CE-CERT has undoubtedly changed the way I go about my work on a daily basis. Instead of feeling the inevitability of burnout as a helper, I feel strongly that energy can come from this work and sustainability is possible.
